Midwest Rainbow News’ new logo design, drawn by an incarcerated artist at Southeast Correctional Center in Missouri.

Welcome to the Midwest Rainbow News! The Midwest Rainbow News is written (mostly) by LGBTQ+ Prisoners and edited, printed and distributed by very dedicated free world volunteers. Our "Inside" Chapter has recently entered into a partnership with Liberation Lit who has so graciously taken over printing and distribution. We maintain a P.O. Box and, as funds permit, we create an account for our prison readers through Securus/Jpay.

By maintaining both modes of communication we insure our readers can reach out to us at any time in order to request advocacy in emergency situations. We deliver timely legislative updates, news stories, educational advice and resource information relevant to the Missouri/Kansas LGBTQ+ Prison Population. We are 100% dependent on donations, grant funding or personal out of pocket funding.

Please take a look around, read some of our back issues. We do not charge prisoners for a subscription to the Midwest Rainbow News. This newsletter is sent out to over 130 incarcerated members of the LGBTQIA+ community in Missouri and Kansas prisons, and provides a lifeline to news, community, and resources.

If you’d like to sign a pen pal or loved one up for the newsletter, fill out this form!

If you’d like to donate to printing and mailing costs, donate to Liberation Lit and write “Midwest Rainbow News” in the donation comment!

I hope all of our family was able to enjoy PRIDE month, even if it was only a day or two of celebration. I know the heat certainly played its part in keeping many of us inside and out of the sun, but I hope you were able to find a place to socialize.

Mother turns 65 this month. I don't know where all the time has gone.It seems like yesterday when I entered prison at 19!

We are in the middle of PRIDE month 2024. I would love to print as many stories as we have room for on how you were able to celebrate PRIDE. So write in and share your story!I have some wonderful news to pass along.

As many of you havediscovered, the FYI app on your tablet has a folder labeled "FCC TEDxEvent". Hopefully someone who participated in the event will write astory for us detailing their experiences. I am so proud of one of mydearest daughters, Sabrina Buddemyer, who was one of the TEDxpresenters. They have a great photo of her on page 21 of the FYI eventfolder. Way to go Sabrina!! With any luck,, the April 4th filming of TEDx at FCC will be available thru our podcast app.

I hope the open letter from Dr. Deutsch has helped provide someinformation to our trans women readers. This month, as promised, wewill provide some information for our trans male readers. I will admit, I will certainly learn something new as I share with you.

I hope everyone was able to see some of the eclipse. Here, we were inthe path of totality and at it darkest, you could see the nighttime stars. What follows is a portion of a story I wrote about the event.

As totality arrived and the prison yard lights flickered to life, Iwatched some of Missouri's most hardened convicts and prison staffas they looked to the heavens with child-like excitement. To punctuate the event, a fireworks display, put on by one of the cities businesses, could be seen and heard by all. But nothing could compare to the showput on by our own solar system.
